Review For Logitech C100 Webcam
Recently, I purchased my first webcam. What I was looking for was a webcam with good enough picture and video quality. In terms of design I was not that demanding but I was looking for a sleek one which should sync with my desktop. The budget was not that high. I just wanted to test this device. My research shown that Logitech webcams are not only reliable but also they are one of the best in the market. There many cheap webcams available in the market for as low as Rs 350 which claims 10 – 16 megapixel but when it comes to picture quality they can be even worse than VGA webcams. Please note that the quality of the picture do not depend on the number of megapixel much as it depends on the quality of the photo sensor. The quality of photo sensor is much superior in quality.
I zeroed in on Logitech webcam. So started to look for model and specification on Logitech India website. I zeroed in on few models like C100 and C310. C310 had 3 MP camera and 720p HD video which would have cost me around Rs 1500. Wheres C100 which has a VGA video resolution of 640 by 480 pixel and a 1.3 MP pixel camera. C100 was quoted in between Rs 630 to 700 in SP road, Bangalore. What played in my mind is do I really need HD video now? How much of it I am going to use? The answer was very minimal. One of the main reason behind my acquiring the webcam recently was for video calls. That strategy is still at the drawing board. So basically this would be a test device. So I went with Logitech C100 which cost be Rs 630 along with 1 year warranty.
I installed the webcam 2 days back. When I checked the picture quality and video quality, I was very happy for what I paid for. I did a video call with one of my friend who also confirmed that video quality is good. Logitech webcam comes with Logitech Vid which allows you to make free video calls with people who have registered on Logitech Vid. You will have to install it from the CD which comes with the webcam. Installation of C100 webcam is very easy. All you will have to do is insert the installation disk which comes with the webcam in your CD/DVD drive and then follow the installation wizard. If you are not sure just follow the standard installation settings. Also, if your system do not meet the minimum requirements then some of the features may be recommended not to be installed. The clip know as universal clip is very nice which sits on both LCD and CRT monitors.
Basic System requirements:
Windows XP SP2 or higher, Windows Vista or Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit)
1 GHz (1.6 GHz recommended)
512 MB RAM or more
200 MB hard drive space
CD-ROM drive
OS-compatible sound card and speakers
1.1 USB port (2.0 recommended)
Broadband Internet connection with 256 kbps upload speed or higherIf yours is just a basic need or for test purpose then I recommend you go for Logitech C100. It will meet more than your requirements. Also, note you will require a good headset for crystal clear chatting. If you are ready to spend little more than you can go for either C160 or C210 which have built in mic so that you do not require any headset.
