Many of us might have played popular games like Pet society, Restaurant city on social networking websites like Facebook. The popular perception may be that these games were developed by Facebook. But that is far from truth. These games along with many other features on Facebook and other popular social networking websites are actually third party applications. Facebook was probably the first social networking website to release API (application programming interface). This allowed many third party developers and vendors to connect their services or products to Facebook. This increased Facebook’s features by thousands. Following suit recently Orkut (owned by Google) released their API. Games on social networking sites are called social games. Social games are games designed to be played together with friends.

These games like Pet society, Restaurant city were developed by Playfish. It claims till date they have developed over 150 million online social games. Playfish headquartered in London, UK, was founded in 2007. Games developed by Playfish are also supported by iPhone and Android mobile phone platform. I never played any game on Facebook. So I thought of trying a new game from Playfish called Gangster City. It is a Hollywood style Bollywood masala game featuring thrill and revenge. I played the Gangster city on Facebook and it is pretty good.

Now how this could be beneficial when we already have Google Analytics. Well, Google Analytics is a good tracking tool but it do not give very extensive information on categories like married, single, graduate, school etc. I suggest you use both in tandem to understand your site traffic better.
